You might be wondering what ADHD is and how is it a special need?
Well.....what is special needs? Special needs are particular
educational requirements arising from physical or intellectual disability or behavioral difficulties.
Okay so what is ADHD? ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors (may act without thinking about what the result will be), or be overly active. https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/adhd/facts.html#:~:text=ADHD%20is%20one,be%20overly%20active.
Are people with ADHD considered neurodivergent? Some of the conditions that are most common among those who describe themselves as neurodivergent include: Autism spectrum disorder (this includes what was once known as Asperger's syndrome). Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Down syndrome. https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/adhd/facts.html#:~:text=ADHD%20is%20one,be%20overly%20active.
What is Neurodivergent?
Differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal (frequently used with reference to autistic spectrum disorders); not neurotypical.
